2018 Porsche Panamera 4S | Modesta BC-04, BC-06 and LPS

The owner of this 2018 Panamera 4S found us over the internet and called us to schedule him in for a maintenance wash while he was in town for his son's wedding. Though we typically only offer maintenance washes to our customers we have previously worked with, I understood the need for the wash as he was coming from Charlotte, NC. Upon arriving for the wash the owner began noticing that everything we were doing seemed to be scientific, which was something he could relate to being a doctor... Regardless, I showed him around the shop while we were washing his Panamera and explaining the different types of services we regularly offer. His car already had paint protection film (which was installed well), but he became curious about the coatings. After explaining the benefits he decided to get the car booked in, which involved driving 10 hours round trip (I think he did it quicker though) and renting a car (you should have seen the mini van) whilst we worked our magic on the Panamera. In order to prepare the paint to perfect condition it would require two stages of polishing. After this we opted for Modesta BC-04 on the paint which will protect the paint for 7+ years. The wheels would be protected with Modesta BC-06 and the Leather would be protected with the two part Modesta Leather Protection System.

Once the Panamera got dropped off we began the decon process. The first step was to tend to the wheels, tires and wheel wells. We did this using an assortment of brushes, microfibers, and safe wheel cleaners.

Once the wheels were clean it was time to wash the paint using the two bucket method, a quality shampoo and our favorite wash mitts. First the paint was foamed up before it was pressure rinsed off. A second layer of foam was then applied to the paint, however, the purpose of this foam was to aid with lubricity when the wash mitt is gliding across the paint.

We then began clay barring the car to remove the bonded contamination that wasn't shifted in the wash process...

We were quite surprised to see how much contamination was present on the lowers of the car with such little time on the clock. No worries though, this is just a necessary part of the process...

We gave the car a final rinse after the clay bar process, at which point we used the metro master blaster to dry the car with heated air.

Once the car was decontaminated and dried, we began taping off the trim and edges of the paint protection film to avoid getting residue on the edges.

The paint was in pretty good condition however each panel had several deeper RIDs (randomly induced defects), which required leveling the paint with the first stage before it was refined with a finishing polish and polishing pad...

While Steven was polishing his way around the Panamera, Bryan polished the exhaust tips...

After the paint was polished, and exterior was prepped for coating we installed the BC-04...

Finally it was time to get started on the wheels and calipers... the wheels were safely removed using wheel hangers and the bolts were removed by hand to insure no damage was done to the wheels.

Each wheel was removed, chemically decontaminated then clay barred to remove any leftover contamination. We then wiped the wheels down with isopropyl alcohol to remove any oils that would prevent bonding of the wheel coating. BC-06 was applied and then the each wheel sat under our short wave infrared curing lamp whist it was curing.

The calipers were also decontaminated with the wheel off the car, at which point the were wiped down with alcohol as well before the Modesta was applied.

We then began curing the body with the short wave IR lamp...

We took advantage of the time the paint was curing to install the new Modesta Trim Coating. We only received a small sample, however, our new order is in the mail. We will make a public announcement when we have the coating in stock...

It was now time for us to turn our attention to the interior, which was in great shape. We did a general vacuum and wipe down of all the surfaces. Glass was cleaned using the 3 towel method and leather was cleaned...

We then did a quick wipe down of the leather with prep solution. Afterwards we did a wipe down with distilled water to insure the surface was free of prep solution. The leather was then allowed to dry for 30 minutes to make sure the LPS would bond properly...

After the first part of the LPS was applied we waited till the following day to apply the second part to the bolsters. The second part is important because it reduces friction thereby helping avoid wear lines.
